In today’s fast-paced world, technology and digital advancements are transforming the way we communicate, learn, and engage with information. These changes have ushered in the era of “digital citizenship,” a concept that encompasses the responsible and effective use of digital technologies for creation, communication, and community participation. Despite its growing importance, the principles of digital citizenship are not yet widely understood or practiced by the younger generation, highlighting a critical gap in our educational approach.
To address this, our project introduces DigiCity, an innovative transmedia and video game designed to educate young people on the nuances of digital citizenship. Video games are an increasingly popular educational tool, offering interactive learning experiences that are both engaging and effective. Through DigiCity, we aim to harness this potential to make learning about digital citizenship not only accessible but also enjoyable.
DigiCity will be more than just a game; it will incorporate key concepts of digital citizenship directly into its gameplay. Players will navigate through various scenarios that mimic real-life digital interactions and challenges, allowing them to learn about the responsibilities and ethical considerations of digital behavior. This practical approach helps players understand the impact of their digital actions and the importance of contributing positively to the online community.
The game will be designed with accessibility in mind, ensuring that it is easy to use and appealing to its target audience — today’s digitally savvy youth. By making the game intuitive and relatable, we will ensure that learners of all backgrounds can benefit from the educational content without feeling overwhelmed by complexity.
Our project will include a set of tools for educators in addition to the game itself. These resources will be crafted to help teachers integrate DigiCity into their curriculum effectively. By providing guidelines, lesson plans, and activities, we will give educators the opportunity to extend the learning experience beyond the game, facilitating discussions and projects that reinforce the principles of digital citizenship.
Our commitment to strengthening digital citizenship education reflects the necessity of preparing young people to navigate and shape the digital world responsibly. As digital technologies continue to permeate all aspects of life, the ability to act as informed, ethical digital citizens is not just valuable—it is essential.
DigiCity is an Erasmus+ project co-funded by the European Union, bringing together the expertise of a diverse consortium including Digitalina Inteligencia from Slovakia, Logopsycom from Belgium, Omladinski savez udruženja “OPENS” from Serbia, and YuzuPulse from France.
Stay tuned for the launch of DigiCity and join us in this pioneering venture to develop a generation of responsible and skilled digital citizens, equipped to thrive and contribute in the digital age.
