About the project

Description

A 2018 study showed that 21.7% of 15-year-olds were experiencing difficulties in reading. Writing and reading difficulties can appear from an early age because nowadays in schools writing is often used more as a means of assessment than as a tool for creation. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that creativity and imagination are effective ways to enhance students’ performance. Furthermore, in 2021, only 54% of people aged 17-74 had basic digital skills, while over 90% of jobs require a basic set of digital skills.

With HDLL, we aim to develop these skills among young students to better prepare them for their future. To do this, we want to use methods that would stimulate the creative side of students by promoting the creation of activities that allow them to invent stories or create guides about their cities and cultures. By integrating cultural heritage into these activities, HDLL aims not only to improve reading and writing skills but also to enrich students’ knowledge of their own history and traditions. Moreover, we will incorporate storytelling techniques and e-book creation workshops using digital tools to make learning more interactive and engaging, thus highlighting the three fundamental pillars of our project: heritage, digital, and literacy.

Project Results

  • Heritage as gateway for developing skills: A guide which will introduce the different topics of the project: digital, literacy and heritage. The goal of this guide is to develop the project’s approach: heritage as a mean of digital and literacy learning.
  • Guide creation and examples: Creation of a guide in which we will develop as a practical guide to allow pupils to create their own “city tour”. The goal is to show how to create a tour story from something of their environment (literacy) and to layout them in an e-book (digital). To enrich this guide, we will also create example sheets in which we will present the tour created by the expert group.
  • A white paper : The third activity will be used as experience feedback by the schools in which pupils have created their own city tours.
