There is an increasing need for tutoring and study help and the industry around grows tremendously, especially following the Covid pandemic. However, people who work as tutors and study support are often not highly pedagogically trained. Therefore, to create better opportunities in education and establish higher quality of tutoring and educational freelancing, we intend to create an online course and support material for tutors to further expand their pedagogical knowledge.
This project aims to provide opportunities for tutors to experiment with new and innovative forms of continuous professional learning while developing their pedagogical and digital competences. The objectives of this project are to support tutors who work with students aged 10 – 16 in becoming more comfortable with their students, gain more pedagogical competences, and more knowledge about educational freelancing, and one-on-one teaching and learning.
Furthermore, we believe that the role of tutors is not to simply transfer the knowledge on their students, prepare them for the exams, or write homework with students. But with this project, we intend to empower trainers in helping students to become active learners, encourage them to be the co-creators of knowledge and further develop their learning to learn competence. Simultaneously, we expect to enable trainers to support students’ lifelong learning while empowering themselves for their professional development and lifelong learning.
Project results:
- A “Tutoring in Europe” booklet. It will list the needs and requirements of tutors and the status of the profession in the different countries.
- An Open Online Course for tutors
- A learner-centred syllabus that will contain all essential information about the MOOC
- Practice-oriented support materials for tutors focused on being education freelancer and pedagogical support containing ready-to-use worksheets, model session plans and learning how to learn toolbox.
