Dys in Youth Field: promoting inclusion in youth work

It is important for young people with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD) to have access to an inclusive and supportive environment. Unfortunately, many youth work initiatives lack the necessary materials to accommodate their needs. The Dys in Youth Field project aims to bridge this gap by developing accessible, gamified, and digital resources to empower youth workers and support young people with SLD.

The need for a new perspective

Young people with SLD often face barriers in formal and non-formal education, as traditional youth work doesn’t really focus on the specific needs of SLD people, which leads to an underrepresentation of SLD youth. Lack of awareness and inclusive methods make it difficult for them to fully participate in youth activities.

This project aims to address these challenges by equipping youth workers with tailored tools and training, fostering awareness, and ensuring that young people with SLD can actively engage and contribute to diverse activities.

Our proposition

The project will introduce an inclusive and innovative approach to youth work by:

  • Developing an online and offline course for youth workers to create more accessible environments
  • Creating a gamified toolkit to facilitate the engagement of young people with SLD
  • Designing a compendium of awareness activities to foster understanding among other young people and professionals
  • Providing guidelines for adapting existing training materials to better accommodate youth with SLD

The project will offer engaging and practical solutions that make inclusion more achievable in youth programs by integrating digital learning and gamification.

What we hope to achieve

The Dys in Youth Field project aims to:

  • Improve youth workers’ knowledge and skills in supporting young people with SLD
  • Increase awareness about SLD in the youth sector
  • Provide inclusive tools that can be used after the end of the project in youth programs
  • Empower young people with SLD to become active participants and facilitators in youth work

With a strong consortium across Europe, this project will create a more inclusive youth work environment, ensuring that all young people have equal opportunities to participate in youth activities.
