About the project

The project’s general objective is to promote social inclusion and the quality of life of older adults, reducing inequalities and enabling everyone to live a whole and dignified life. In particular, the proposal aims at improving the quality of the touristic services promoted to older people by tourism SMEs and social economic operators, creating competencies and more inclusive communities.

The project will contribute to creating awareness in the elderly population regarding the fact that they are, to all effects, active citizens and potential tourists. It will also improve the availability of high-quality learning opportunities for adults, as one of the outputs is represented by an open-source training kit for professional silver tourism facilitators/experts that can structure tourism packages to attract visitors in the third age to a specific tourist destination. In the tourism sector, current common priorities across countries are environmental sustainability and digitalisation, considered critical for the successful development of the industry, of which operators are increasingly conscious and are making investments in those priorities.

However, tourism by older people represents an exciting and growing market segment to develop that most operators have not tackled appropriately yet.

The project aims to increase the digital skills of older people to make them more capable and autonomous in accessing online services. This target group’s new product /service design will consider the need to make it easy to use and build digital skills.

Project results:

  • Guidelines for tourist operators/SMEs to best accommodate and satisfy elderly tourists’ needs.
  • An open-source guide on inclusive silver tourism with a training kit for professional silver tourism facilitators.
